The Hare Hide is located in Kiberg.
Kiberg is a small town located a 15 min drive from Vardø (or 50 min drive from Vadsø).
Season (February - April)
The hide is available during the winter season, from the 1st of February until the 10th of April, covering the months of February, March, and early April
Duration (20.00 until sunrise)
Meetup at the hide is at 20:00 (local time). The hares usually wander back into the mountains around sunrise, which is why the end time is set to sunrise. You are free to leave the hide earlier if you prefer.

The hide is designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 photographers* per session, with a practical layout and multiple shooting positions, creating a functional and comfortable working environment.
*Capacity will increase from 6 to 10 photographers per night following a summer 2026 upgrade.
10 spots will be available for the 2027 season.

The Arctic Fox
The Varanger peninsula has a booming Arctic fox population, and during previous seasons, several of our photographers had arctic foxes by the hide. If you're lucky you might get a surprise visit by this elusive animal as a bonus too!

The hide was created by Norwegian native Skjalg-Helmer Vian (b. 2000), who grew up in Varanger. With over a decade of experience in photography, he has in recent years moved into filmmaking, including shooting for the BBC Natural History Unit.
